Slow Action - No Movement

Hey Folks, I will have to say we are in a slow time right now regarding the hunting here in Pa, atleast where I am. I haven't seen a deer the last 3 times I have been out. Now, there has been plenty of squirrels, chipmunks, etc. but now deer.

I have to think that with the weather turning alittle colder, the deer will start to move and I should begin to see some action. I have located several scrapes throughout the area and several buck rubs so I know we are getting into the rut. I look for it to be in full force somewhere around the week of halloween. I can't wait for it to pick up.

I will keep you posted as to the results and post any new photos I receive.

Good luck on your next hunt.

Whitetail Deer Were Not Moving This Weekend

Well, the deer just didn't seem to be moving this weekend for my hunts. I did not see one thing all weekend, well beside the squirrels that were running around. I checked my camera photos and saw a small 4 point had been through the area last Monday evening. The same evening I decided to hunt in my 3rd ladder stand. Of course, that's how it always it right. You hunt one place and the bucks come through the other stand. Luckily, it wasn't a legal shooter but who knows what else had been through there and not walked in front of the camera. Oh well...I will keep hunting that is for sure. There are still several big bucks out there in my hunting area.

I continued to look for the doe I shot later in the evening but still didn't have any luck finding her. The temps here have been in the 70's and 80's, extremely high for this time of year and the blood trails seemed to have dried up from earlier in the day when I first started tracking her. I think the temps have affected the deer movement also as they haven't seemed to be moving alot. I am hoping for lower temps this week and weekend for my hunts.

The rut seems to be taking shape here in Pa as I have seen several buck rubs and a few scrapes. I have created a mock scrape with the new 24Seven Dominant Buck scent that I have just received. I am looking forward to rut getting started and hope to have this scrape bring the bucks right to my stand. I will keep you posted.

Best of luck on your next hunt,

I got a shot at a doe but....

Well, I went out hunting this morning. Crawled out of bed at 6:00 and was off to my stand by 6:20. Sitting in the stand by 6:40 waiting for it to get light enough to see. I sat there and sat there...nothing...then...a deer. I heard something and immediately turned to my left and saw a deer heading right towards me about 20 yards. Still heading towards me, not even seeing or smelling me at all. I waited, full draw to get a good shot as this doe turned and decided to walk towards the back of my stand. I decided to make a bleat noise to get the doe to stop inorder to get a shot. It worked...the doe stopped and I got a good shot at it. It kicked and I could see the arrow sticking out of the other side as it went running by me. I thought, yeah..I got it. I waited for about an hour before heading after my doe. My dad and I searched, first finding my arrow completely covered with blood, a good sign I thought. We followed a blood trail for about 100 yards and then nothing..no blood, no deer, nothing. We searched another 1 and 1/2 and still couldn't find it. The temp here today at high 80's so I know this is not a good sign. My dad and family searched again later in the day and still couldn't find the doe.
I'm not sure what the heck happened. I know I made a good shot. I saw the arrow sticking out and it went through, we found blood. I guess it's just one of those things that I will never know. Maybe it was a bad angle and didn't quite get alot of the lung, even though the blood was bright red indicating a lung hit.

I will be out tomorrow morning, taking another shot at a doe.

By the way, I pulled some pictures from this stand and on Monday night I went hunting and chose to sit in stand #3 and didn't see anything. The pictures from stand #1 and a 4 point buck came through that stand about 7:30pm in the evening the same night. Wrong stand, wrong time...

Well, I will report what happens this weekend...hope it turns out better.

Best of luck on your next hunt,

I will try again this weekend!

I will be out again this weekend trying to harvest one of those big bucks I've gotten on my cameras. This week, the wind did not cooperate as the wind was blowing in the wrong direction for my stands. I will be out tomorrow morning and also Friday and Saturday as the wind will be switching and looks promising for a great hunt. I am looking forward to it. I will keep you posted about how the hunts go.

Best of luck on your next hunt,

Michelle

Archery Season - Not a good start.

Well, the start of Archery season has come and gone but I am still without a deer. Saturday came and went so fast that I only managed to see 1 doe around 7:30am. It came within 25 yards of my stand but I wasn't able to get a shot at it as it was behind a tree and then decided to turn and go the other direction. I sat all evening on Saturday and didn't see a thing. The temperatures are alittle warm here in Pa so it may have an affect on how the deer are moving.

Monday - I went out again this evening and tried my luck at the deer. I came up empty handed again tonight as nothing made its way past my stand. My brother in law did see a few does and a 4 point buck but nothing he could shoot.

I will be at it again this week, getting out there and spending time in the woods.

Hope my next report is one of success.

Best of luck on your next hunt,
