Turkey Gobbling..Ready for the season to start

I can't wait, here in Pa we are moving into our next hunting season, turkey season. It opens on April 28, 2007. So, the other day, I was getting excited because I saw 2 turkeys out my door when I went to leave for the day. Okay, great, they are going to be there for this upcoming turkey season.

Then on Friday, I was sitting in my vehicle and getting ready to leave when I noticed some turkeys coming out of the edge of woods. As I sat there, I noticed more and more turkeys coming out of the woods. So, as I counted, I got to five, six, seven... and ended at fourteen. Can you believe it, fourteen turkeys came out into the corn field last friday. Wow! Only 1 week and a day until the opening of turkey season. I continued to watch and and sure enough there were a couple of turkeys in full strut. Gobblers, yes, with nice beards. Of course, I had to get out my binoculars that I carry in my car, for spotting deer no less, but today, I was using them for turkeys. I saw some long beards on these gobblers. Boy, did that got my blood moving. Now, I really can't wait until opening day. It was so exciting, I am ready for this Saturday.

Well, on Sunday morning, I was up early letting my dogs out and I decided to step outside and listen for the gobblers. Boy, did I get excited. As I stood there, it was peaceful and quiet and then...the sound you love to hear, the gobble. I heard several turkeys gobbling atleast six or seven times that morning.

So, I am ready to hunt. If that doesn't get you excited about hunting, I am not sure you are a true dedicated hunter. I get so excited for every hunting season. So, you will find me this Saturday in the woods bright and early hoping to get one of those gobblers to come my way.

Best of luck to everyone on their hunt!

Whitetail Deer In My Backyard

Well, I couldn't believe it last night when I arrived home. I pulled into my driveway and saw another deer in my backyard eating.

Okay, so they are starting to show up again like in past years. As I went to bed around 10:30pm, I have an upper window that I use to spot out of my house to see my backyard and field that I own, I spotted out my window. To my amazement, there were atleast 10 deer eating in that same area. I just wonder what they are eating. There really isn't anything there. I will have to check out that spot to see just what the excitement is with this spot.

Well, the deer are active here in PA as they are moving at night and especially in my backyard.

That's what you like to see, deer that made it through the hunting season and staying in your hunting area. I can't wait until the next hunting season, just seeing these deer gets me excited to hunt. I am ready! I really need to do alot of preseason scouting to get those buck to come to my hunting stand.

Enjoy your hunts!

Checking the Cameras and Looking for Deer Antler Sheds

I started out this past Saturday checking my two deer cameras that I have placed along the edge of a field. I have found that the deer are coming out in the evening and feeding in this field. We'll all I got was 2 photos that I will post below. However, on Saturday night as I was returning home around 9:30 or so, I pulled into my drive way and spotted atleast 10 deer standing in my backyard with only my headlights to shine on them. Can you picture this? I was pulling forward, putting it in reverse, turning left, turning right, and all of this just to see how many deer where in this field. Sounds crazy doesn't it. But that's what we do as hunters, sometimes, we do crazy stuff just to see the deer.

I have been looking for deer antler sheds but have not come across any as of yet. I hope to find atleast one in my scouting. You should be getting out and looking for sheds, take a kid with you. I know they would enjoy getting out into the woods for some fresh air and to spend time with you.

Don't forget, it's time to plant that spring food plot. I will be discussing how my food plot is coming along in my upcoming reports. I am newbie when it comes to making a food plot so this should get interesting.

Best of luck in your next hunt! Here are the photos from my camera
