PA Rifle Season Has Started
Monday was opening day for rifle here in Pa. Yes, my family and I were out hunting. We enjoyed a gorgeous 60 degree day however, this meant that the hunters were sitting longer than usual and the deer weren't being pushed. We did manage to come away from Monday with 3 button bucks. Not bad for 5 people hunting. In Pa, there are antler restrictions in place which means you can't shoot a buck unless it has 4 points on one side. I was fortunate enough to see a nice 6 point walk within 15 yards of me and I was hunting on the ground, however, I couldn't shoot it. It was nice but only had 3 on each side. I also had a 4 point point walk up to me. I did see buck but not anything that was legal. I did manage to take one of the 3 button bucks in the afternoon. That was nice. I had to whistle at him to get him to stop as he was leaping by me. He did stop and I got off a quick shot. He went down right away. My brother did manage to harvest a doe on the first day as well. He moved to a different location as I was going to push for him before we came in to eat lunch. As I started to push, I heard shooting from his directions. I called him on the radio and he had shot at a deer running across the field but didn't think he got it. I told him I would continue to push to see if anything else comes out. He then started shooting again. Another doe came out and he was able to get a good shot on it. We found it and he was successful. My dad, mom, and I ventured out on Tuesday but were unable to spot any deer. My sister did come out with us in the afternoon and she saw a beautiful tall rack running across the field but couldn't count points as she only saw the rack and half of the body. She also say a 4 point - two y's on each side and a spike. That was it. No more hunting for me until Friday. We are expecting to get a cold front moving in and it could dump alot of snow on us. That would be nice for hunting and getting the deer moving but it doesn't do nothing for the cold fingers. I will keep you posted as we continue to hunt for the next 2 weeks after one of the big bucks I've posted on this blog in the past.
